South Boston, VA – April 22, 2013 – On March 15th-16th, four of the MBC-sponsored FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) teams competed in Richmond at the Siegel Center on the campus of Virginia Commonwealth University and the fifth team competed 160 miles away in Raleigh at the North Carolina Regional Competition. The Chatham High RoboCavs, G.W. High Team Talon, Martinsville High MADawgs, and Piedmont Governor’s School STAGS competed in Richmond against a field of 65 teams. The Bluestone High Skrappy competed in Raleigh where 55 teams vied for the regional title.
All of the teams constructed their robots in just six short weeks prior to the event for a challenge dubbed ULTIMATE ASCENTSM, where Frisbees were shot through targets and the robots climbed rungs on a 3-rung pyramid structure. The STAGS, Team Talon, and Skrappy were among the few that achieved quarterfinalist status during the elimination rounds of their respective tournaments. The Piedmont Governor’s School STAGS won gold at the 2013 FIRST Robotics Virginia Regional Competition. MBC would like to congratulate the STAGS on their victory at the regional competition and wish them best of luck at the World Championship Competition to be held April 24th-27th in St. Louis, Missouri. Mid-Atlantic Broadband applauds all five of these teams for the copious amount of hard work and dedication that was poured into these robots to bring them to life in the arena. MBC sponsors the FIRST FRC competitions as a way to support workforce preparation in STEM education, which is a vital component of economic revitalization. |
