MBC Renews STEM-H Scholarship for Community College Students in Southern Virginia
Scholarship will allow students to expand their knowledge and skills in STEM-H fields

South Boston, VA – October 18, 2016 – Mid-Atlantic Broadband Communities Corporation (MBC) announced today that it is continuing a scholarship established last year for students who are furthering their education in a STEM-H field at one of the four community colleges located in Southern Virginia.  Central Virginia Community College (CVCC), Danville Community College (DCC), Patrick Henry Community College (PHCC), and Southside Virginia Community College (SVCC) have each received $5,000 from MBC to distribute as they see would best benefit students studying in STEM-H fields at their college for the 2016-2017 year.

“We are thrilled to continue to be able to help provide educational opportunities for students studying in STEM-H fields at these four colleges,” said Tad Deriso, MBC President and CEO.  “These students are the future workforce of Southern Virginia, and the knowledge and skills they are learning in the STEM-H programs at these community colleges are in high demand for companies located in Southern Virginia and those looking to locate in the region.  MBC is dedicated to ensuring that the people of our region are gaining the credentials needed to attain these high-demand jobs and that the workforce exists for these companies to thrive in the region.”

A student enrolled at any of these four community colleges is eligible for this scholarship if he or she maintained a high school GPA of 3.2 or higher and is a graduate of one of the thirty-three high schools located in the Southside Tobacco Region within the MBC footprint.

The 2016-2017 scholarship became available to students in the fall semester.  The 2015-2016 MBC scholarship enabled 22 students to advance their STEM-H knowledge and skills at these four institutions.
