MBC’s Regional Backbone Initiative Honored with Dewberry Award for Excellence
March 17th, 2007
Fairfax, VA: Winners of the Dewberry Awards for Excellence program were announced at the Annual Business Meeting and Awards for Excellence dinner on March 17, 2007 in Fairfax, Virginia. An annual internal awards program, Dewberry honors projects and work systems that represent the best application of what the firm offers—experience, knowledge and client partnership.
The MBC Regional Backbone Initiative was given the Award for Excellence in the quality of life category. A slate of jurors from the public and private sector commented that the project “has an obvious immediate impact on people’s lives.” The jurors were also impressed with the project specifics—a 700-mile, open-access telecommunications infrastructure spanning 20 counties, five cities and more than 60 business and industrial parks. They mentioned that the project provides “a generational impact” and “increases possibilities for this region that never would have existed before.”
The Mid-Atlantic Broadband Cooperative retained Dewberry to provide planning, permitting, design, and construction management services on the project. Jill Campbell, Dewberry’s project assistant in the firm’s Danville, Virginia, office, accepted the award.
