Mid-Atlantic Broadband Cooperative Selects Mapcom Systems’ M4® Solutions for Metro, Regional & Long Haul Fiber Mapping and Management
June 21st, 2006
Richmond, VA - Mapcom Systems, a leading provider of Geographical Operations System (GOS) software, announced today that Mid-Atlantic Broadband Cooperative (MBC) of Central Virginia has selected M4 Solutions to map and manage its more than 700 miles of advanced, open-access wholesale optical transport network. The M4 software will map and manage the entire telecom plant facility from backbone node sites, data centers and carrier hotels to industrial, business and technology parks in the region. The M4 software then ties each map item back to an individual database record, which in turn will be integrated with MBC’s existing network management, customer, strand/circuit assignment and billing records.
MBC provides high capacity optical transport services for telecommunications carriers who offer advanced broadband services to end-user customers in the region. The network enables competitive access, and helps connect the Southside Virginia region to the global Internet through high capacity links to Tier 1 network providers in the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic region. The availability of these services will help promote economic growth in the region by allowing communities to better compete for jobs, attract technology-based companies and retain skilled labor.
“After a thorough review of mapping applications in the marketplace, MBC selected M4 because of its flexibility, ease of use, and powerful plant management features” says Tad Deriso, General Manager of MBC. “M4 allows us to manage all aspects of our extensive regional fiber optic backbone network to maximize operational efficiencies and build value for our members. We are delighted with our Mapcom partnership, and look forward to the benefits M4 will provide as we create unique economic development opportunities for our Southside Virginia region.”
“We are incredibly excited to have the opportunity to serve the Mid-Atlantic Broadband Cooperative, and are proud to be a part of such a forward thinking and meaningful effort to support economic growth and development in Virginia,” said John Granger, President of Mapcom Systems. “We believe the M4 Solutions Suite will enhance MBC’s operations and help MBC achieve its goals by enabling them to serve their customers faster and more cost effectively.”
