GRETNA, VA – Residents and businesses in Northern Pittsylvania County will now have even faster Internet services, thanks to a new high-speed connection delivered by the Mid-Atlantic Broadband Cooperative (MBC) in collaboration with TelCove. This high-speed circuit enables increased Internet speeds and improves reliability by providing a diverse connection to the Global Internet.
This improvement in broadband services would not have been possible without the critical infrastructure investments led by State Senator Charles Hawkins (R-Chatham) and funded by the Virginia Tobacco Commission. Delegate Clarke Hogan (R-Halifax), who chairs the Technology Committee, said “I’m delighted to see our strategic investments show some tangible returns for our Southside region. This is just the start of the many improvements to be implemented over the next few years that will improve broadband coverage and strengthen the economic environment of Southside Virginia.”
The high-speed Internet connection is being delivered by the Mid-Atlantic Broadband Cooperative, an organization tasked with building an advanced, open-access fiber optic network throughout Southside Virginia. Tad Deriso, General Manager of MBC stated “This high speed connection represents the first of many exciting improvements in broadband connectivity in Southside Virginia. Our business model is to enable the delivery of wholesale broadband services to our members like Peoples Mutual Telephone Company, and we are excited to be a part of their growth.”
TelCove, a leading provider of business critical telecommunications services to enterprise customers, carriers, and government organizations, is providing the internet connectivity. Kim Stanley, Telcove’s Regional Vice President of Sales and Operations, states “We are excited to be a part of MBC’s first circuit delivery. With our focus medium-to-large enterprises in the Southside region, we are looking forward to working with MBC members, as well as the broader Southside business community to help them improve communications reliability and performance, and enable advanced telecommunications services in the region.”
MBC has already attracted many telecommunications providers who will expand broadband coverage in the region. These members include GCR Communications (South Boston), Pure Internet (Halifax), Kinex (Farmville), TelPage (Emporia), Lynchburg Computer Systems, Buggs Island Telephone Cooperative (Bracey), Netwave, LLC (Lynchburg), C3I (Danville), Peoples Mutual Telephone Company (Gretna), Ntelos (Waynesboro), and TelCove (Roanoke)
